Federal Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan says a strike by the Worldwide Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada is prohibited after a ruling by the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
In a tweet, O’Regan says the impartial board ordered that the union stop and desist any strike exercise as a result of it didn’t present 72 hours’ discover.
The strike that has shut down British Columbia’s ports resumed Tuesday after the longshore staff union rejected a tentative mediated deal.
The Worldwide Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada says “employers haven’t addressed the price of dwelling points” confronted by staff in the previous couple of years.
The tentative four-year deal that was rejected had been proposed by a federal mediator on the instruction of O’Regan.
O’Regan and Transport Minister Omar Alghabra have stated staff and employers throughout Canada can’t face additional disruption and that they’re taking a look at all choices.
